As a guide, your rent should not exceed 35% of your salary. Give yourself a flexible range so that you will have more options. You could rent a public HDB flat for less than SGD2000 a month. For SGD3000 or more, you can get a private condominium unit that comes with facilities like swimming pool, tennis court, gym and etc. If you have higher budget you can rent an apartment in the town area or a landed home. Areas popular with expatriates are Orchard, River Valley, East Coast, Holland and Bukit Timah. II. Location Take into consideration you and your partner's place of work, children's school and etc to narrow down your choices of location. III. Facilities Do you just need a place to rest or you are looking forward to utilising facilities like swimming pool, tennis court, gym and etc during your leisure time? IV.
